  • Viking360 modded PS3 controller – all your Call...
By on October 17th, 2012 | No Comments Comments

I recently received a modded PS3 controller from Viking360 (Xbox360 modded controllers are also available. The one controller I received in particular is the black PS3 modded controller called the Ragnarok with USB option for $129.90USD while a non USB version is $99.95USD.

At first glance, the Ragnarok controller looks exactly like a regular PS3 controller. The only difference is the extra tiny mod switch on the back of the controller. I had sometime to test out the different modes like burst fire, jitter mode, akimbo mode, rapid fire, timed reload (they call it Fast Reload) where you can control the timing of your reload. All of these modes are designed specially for the Call of Duty series and may work for other games as per the details on the site.

The first few tries of switching modes weren’t as smooth and I had to really find a relatively quiet spot to switch between them. But it became second nature soon enough. I’m not going to go into too details on how to switch modes but I will talk about one of them just to give you an idea. For example, for rapid fire mode, all you have to do is hold the mod switch and hit the R1 button, you will see Player 4 LED flashes which tells you that the controller has received your command. You are now in rapid fire mode and you can now fire any single shot weapons like the FAL as if it was a SMG or LMG. Another feature I want to briefly mention is the Zombie mode which offers auto-aim with or without rapid fire support. This might come in handy for those having trouble with much higher stages.

In the details section on the controller’s page, you will notice something called Phantom Buttons. What this Phanton Buttons means is that, changing modes will not cause you to fire a single shot so that you will not be giving away your positions while you switch in between modes. Call of Duty players like me who really care about stealth and not firing random shots will appreciate this little feature.

The features go on for this Ragnarok controller and with this USB version you can even program, for example, your Rapid fire Mode to fire from 5 shots up to 99 shots per seconds. I personally think 99 shots per seconds is an over kill but the option is there for those that need it.

Overall, the Ragnarok does well for what it offers, I have not noticed any problems or glitches while testing this with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops. Pretty solid piece of modded controller. Again, I apologize for not going into too detail on each modes and how you can program the modes through the USB and your computer. I feel that the default settings for each mode is more than enough for the majority of players out there. Again, the options are there for those who need it.

I’ve copied the details here for convenience:

    • Single Rapid Fire
    • Dual Trigger Rapid Fire
    • Burst Firing
    • Akimbo Firing
    • Jitter Firing**+
    • Zombie Auto-aim**

Purchase the USB upgrade for your PS3 Ragnarok, and you will receive free Windows PC customization software, free software updates for life, and these additional mods:

    • Programmable Quick Scope
    • Auto-Sprint
    • Trophy Glitch Fast Reload***
    • Semtex Glitch Fast Reload***

  • Is what I am doing really considered camping in Moder...
By on April 3rd, 2012 | No Comments Comments

I’ve been playing the Call of Duty series for years, many years, starting with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. From time to time I get messages from haters saying I’m a camper, or something similar but in a lot more offensive tone. That got me thinking, is what I am doing really considered camping? I do realize that staying at one spot for an extended period of time is camping, that’s obvious. But the thing is, I am far from doing that. I mean each game is roughly 7 minutes on average, what is the fun in doing that when I never play the sniper class?

I think I am just playing smart, I move out when I know or have some idea of where the enemies are and attempt to take them out. In a real life situation, would you jump out of no where and risk getting shot from every possible direction? Plus with World at War and Modern Warare 3′s wacky spawning issue, it is really hard to constantly be moving all over the place and sometimes you do have to buckle down in a spot for more than 5 seconds when enemies just keep pouring out of the same location.

What do you guys think? Am I really a camper? Or just a smart player trying to maximize the amount of kills and minimize my deaths for the team?

    Dead Space 2

So I finally finishe Dead Space 2 and it was a blast! I would say the game is near perfect in my opinion. From start to finish it was full of none stop action and suspense where the game got me a few times and made me jump. Towards the end I didn’t expect I had to deal with so many necromorphs, they just kept on popping up here and there and that was fun! My only complain is the final boss fight and I will let you guys see for yourselves instead of me spoiling everything.

    Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 introduced a few new guns but I seriously think the previous ones like the trusty plasma cutter, pulse rifle and the very powerful (even without upgrade) line gun, were more than enough to fight off any mobs of necromorphs. I did use the “sniper” seeker rifle from the beginning of obtaining it to the end. Definitely provided me with different ways of dismembering the necromorphs.

The game also introduced a few new types of necromorphs, the Crawler (exploding baby), Stalker and Pack along with the old “cast” like Slasher, the Brute and Lurker (see a full list here). Surprisingly there were a lot of boss encounters like the previous game, which is also one of the downfall of the game. But like I said, the game pace was so intense for me that didn’t bother me too much. Though I did miss killing the The Leviathan or The Hive Mind.

The sound effect, as usual, gave me the creeps and kept me alert and awake all the time. Funny how the necromorphs only appeared when I least expected! Good job on that.

I played a couple of multiplayer and honestly it wasn’t as bad as people said. But for sure it DOES require teamwork otherwise you will not achieve anything acting like Rambo. One thing is true though, is the fact that humans are a bit overpowered at times so you really have to play smart if you are playing as necromorphs. Sort of like Zerg from Starcraft, you really have to know when to swamp at the humans. Here’s a (obviously) tip, try not to go head on!

For all that PLUS it includes the rail shooter game Dead Space Extraction, originally from the Wii, I give Dead Space 2 a 9/10.

Perhaps there will be a third one?

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Animus Project Update 2.0

Why can’t more game companies be like Ubisoft? Why can’t they make us gamers happier and stop milking us to death? After all, we are the ones keeping them alive. Look at the DLCs for the Modern Warfare series, they (Treyarch) recently said they have listened to the fans and created DLC maps for us, well I guess they didn’t listen hard enough. We said it many many times we didn’t want and we still don’t want to pay for the DLCs, especially rehashed maps like the ones from Modern Warfare 2 DLC.

Keeping your fans happy goes a long way game companies and Ubisoft is doing the right thing. Good job Ubisoft for releasing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Animus Project Update 2.0 for FREE!

    Ace Combat: Assault Horizon FTW

So that H.A.W.X 2 AC-130 trailer failed pretty badly in my opinion. Today I found this trailer for the new Ace Combat series – Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and let me tell you, my eyes were as wide and big as they could be while watching it. Just jaw dropping!

What’s so special you ask? At first I kind of expected it to be yet another arcade shooter from the series but as the producer points out in the trailer, this is a “rebirth” of the series because the game play is different now. And I think the difference is why I’m so in love with it. Based on the trailer, you are now interacting with your plane and your enemies closer. When you blow up the enemy fighters with missiles or the machine gun, you will get to see pieces flying off, sort of like the human dismemberment from say, Dead Space or Dead Rising.

    Ace Combat: Assault Horizon FTW

From what I saw in the trailer, looks like you will also get a few slow motion dog fights and being chased by enemies where you actually get to see the enemy chasing after you from the third person camera view. AND, looks like you get to fly and blow things up in a helicopter as well????

I mean, wow, just wow. I was literally wowing for the entire trailer from start to finish. I hope there’s a TBA soon as I will be getting this one first day no doubt. Its been too long for us Ace Combat fans to wait for the next installment for the Ace Combat series.

    Ace Combat: Assault Horizon FTW

Just…..just look at this amazing trailer! I’m sold! LOVE LIVE ACE COMBAT!

    Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 - AC-130 failed
So Gametrailers post this “AC-130 Massacre Gameplay” and ironically I think this is a massacre for the game, well at least this AC130 part. Although I am a Call of Duty fan, by all means I am not a fan boy since I do have a fair share of negative feedbacks for it. But let’s not go back there again.

So I was not too impressed with the way you get to rain fire from the AC-130, I didn’t hear any reload at all from its cannon like in the Call of Duty version. That alone was enough for me to say no to this game. The sound effect is just isn’t there, even the ones that I could barely hear weren’t engaging enough. The whole thing resulted in a very boring game play in my opinion.

And as for the actual flight mode where you get to fly other figher jets, well, let’s just say after playing the demo over the weekend, I still prefer the Ace Combat series.

This is from Modern Warfare 2:

I think I’ve just wet my pants while watching this trailer of the next Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid: Rising. This time it won’t be a third person stealth action though and instead be more of a third person action (at least based on the trailer) with my beloved MSG character Raiden slashing the enemies. Raiden is looking cooler than ever, sort of his original look mixed with super saiyan from Dragon Ball series.

Unlike Star Wars: Force Unleashed’s light sabers, Raiden’s blade will actually let you cut or slice up your enemies the way you want. Thank you Konami for actually making this a realistic experience.

I’m all hyped up for this game right now!

    Alan Wake - Xbox 360
Alan Wake will be released tomorrow May 18th, is one of those games where I wish I had an Xbox 360. Some people might disagree with me but I wish I had this as a PS3 exclusive instead of Heavy Rain. Don’t get me wrong, Heavy Rain was good, but not good enough because it involves too much of just clicking buttons (I nearly fell asleep while playing the demo). I guess I prefer more action oriented thriller games like Alan Wake.

    Alan Wake - Xbox 360

Alan Wake really brings back memories from series such as Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. It has the atmosphere of Silent Hill. The way of killing the bad guys is to use things that produce light like flash bang, giant spot lights and flash lights which reminds me of Fatal Frame which also uses non conventional weapons like Camera Obscura, instead of guns and frag grenades.

    Alan Wake - Xbox 360

For those of you who has an Xbox 360 I think you should consider getting it or at least rent it.

Oh how I wish I had an Xbox 360…..
