  • I’m sick and tired of 3D movies
By admin on August 6th, 2011 | No Comments Comments

I don’t want to sound like a cry baby but I am really getting sick of being forced to watch almost every single movie in 3D. Every single one of those movies I watched barely contained any 3D scenes. Although I have to admit the 3D scenary where things were floating in Pandora in Avatar and Kraken scene from Clash of The Titans were impressive. Those barely gave me a few minutes of joy and absolutely not worth paying the premium of a few dollars.

Not to mention that I wear glasses to begin with and I constantly have to adjust my 3D pair because it keeps slipping down. Then again, that’s just a small problem compare to the amount of real 3D experience you get to enjoy in these so called 3D movies.

Then you have these 3D ready TVs, seriously I wonder how many people have actually bought them. I for one, will not buy one unless they become so main stream like HD TVs which means they will be relatively affordable. As a matter of fact, I prefer to wait until they come out with 3D ready TVs that do not require wearing 3D glasses. I’m pretty sure they will since Nintendo 3DS can do it, though not the greatest but its a start.

So what do I think of all this 3D hype? Nothing but money gouging in an attempt to force people to pay extra for something that’s not noticeable. And if they decide to go full 3D only for every movie out there, I can bet that will be a LOT more people willing to “download” the movies instead of watching them in person. In the end, its your lost movie directors not us consumers.

And I’m sure you know what I mean by “download”.

  • My second year in Second Life
    By admin on August 31st, 2008 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Looking back these years playing Second life, an online virtual reality game. Friends come and go, though I’ve gained a few more friends who initially were my customers. The only thing that is missing in my second life is I need to socialize more, I have to admit it plays a huge part in the game. That is also one reason why I don’t have too many friends in there. All I did and still am doing is login, build and logoff. By build, I mean building houses, stores, malls and bunkers you name them. I really love building in SL, because it allows me to release my imaginations through the use of software tools.

When I first started with no money, I didn’t have my own land and thus I didn’t have my own store. I had to rent from someone. The place was called Mobius Village, it drew my attention because my avatar name is Mobius Hashimoto, so it meant something to me. Not sure if it still exist though. Also the rent there was resonable so I had my little store there for about half a year or so. Then I found another place called Armory Island which, as you can guess, sells military related products and is the biggest place for your military needs. There is no rent but AI charges a 25% commission, which is somewhat steep. But with the traffic there, I thought it was worth it and its also good for exposing my products to more people. About a year had passed, my business was stable enough that it would cover the monthly land ownership fee as well as the premium membership fee. I decided, with the help of some friends, to buy my very own piece of land, its a 4096 sq feet of space, which was and still is more than enough to build a relatively spacious store. You have no idea what the feeling was like to own your first piece of virtual land!

So here I am, still building things and running my little business. Although I don’t build as much as I used to, my passion for building and this game overall is still as strong. Lately I’m just occupied with other things that I haven’t built for months until now.

If you are into virtual reality type of games. You should definitely give Second life a try. It is free so you have nothing to lose other than some of our first life. :) There are just many fun things to do there like clubbing/partying, building like me, or just socialize with others and play many different types of interesting mini games that are built by others in Second Life.

Time flies, its already been 2 years since I’ve joined Second Life. So I have decided to design and build a 2 year anniversary prefab. As usual, I tried different ideas and came up with this. Hope you guys like it!

  • Classic 1942 turns 3D – 1942: Joint Strike demo
By admin on August 14th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

As soon as I saw 1942: Joint Strike demo on PSN, I downloaded it immediately. 1942 was and still is one of the most addicting war plane shooter games of all time. Its simply classic. The remake is in 3D and the graphics are just so crisp and sharp. Back then when the plans blow up, it was just a simple blow up image, now the planes actually break into pieces and disappear.

In terms of game play, like I said, its just as addictive as the classic version, it also has stunning graphics. You have more ways of blowing up your enemies now. You have this new shooting mode where you hold the shoot button, it will fire a stronger shot like from the yet another classic plane shooter called R-Type in addition to the classic shooting mode but I didn’t find that new mode effective. Aside from normal shooting, you will have the bombs that will basically wipe out anything on the screen. Missiles is also another new weapon where, if I remember correctly, you get to use them by shooting down enemies. And finally, instead of getting killed in one shot, this version of 1942 features a life bar instead, life bars are nothing new to plane shooters but its a nice addition.

The demo features one quick level, as you can guess, there will be a boss at the end of the level. The memories of playing the classic version just came back to me when I had to dodge all over the place just to not get hit by the many bullets just fly towards you. It was amazingly fun!

I highly recommend this game for those that find plane shooters addictive. With better graphics and game play, 1942: Joint Strike is worth every $9.99USD/CAD that you are going to pay for! I might even get the full version later. :)

If you want to look for a copy of the original 1942 on NES, I’ve found some on eBay.
