  • Two days ago, my friend messaged me and asked if I wanted to start having sleepless nights by playing SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online. At first I thought it was a hacked message judging by the, in my opinion, weird URL – http://sdgo.ogplanet.com/, but I soon dismissed that and so I clicked the link. Once the page was loaded, I then realized this was the exact same online Gundam game that I wanted to play years ago but it was only available within Japan at the time.

He was right, we will be losing a ton of sleep because I’ve only been playing for a day or so and I am already addicted to this game. SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online is basically an free-to-play MMO third person shooter game where you get to pilot SD, or super deformed, version of mobile suits. If you have played any other shooter games on PC, be it first or third person, you will be able to jump right in and start blasting enemie mobile suits AND mobile suit carriers.

One of the elements that makes SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online so addictive is the fact that you can use your points that you obtain from quests and battles to buy capsule fighters from the capsule machines. For those who doesn’t know what I am talking about here is one example. There are more than a few dozen capsule machines for you to choose from, each machine contains 6 different mobile suits that you can potentially get from playing (using your points). The mobile suits are ranked A, B and C with C being the lowest class of all. Obviously you want to aim for Class As. But just like the real toy capsule machine, its all based on chance (minus the fact that real toy capsule machine owners might take out the good ones and sell them separately for higher prices leaving all the worthless ones in the machine). It took me more than 10 tries to obtain the class B Blue Flame.

The game starts you off with tutorials covering the basics, then you will receive a random capsule which is your very first capsule fighter. It will probably be either a class C Zaku or GM. I got the GM and my friend got a yellow GM. Yes they are pretty bad but they are really just your starter MS (mobile suits). You can quickly obtain your next capsule fighter by completing quests. You will also earn the points mentioned above so you can try out your luck on one of those capsule machines. You and your MS will gain experience as you play. As your MS’s gain more experience and “rank” up, they will obtain abilities like the “special” move as well as passive / active abilties like increased attack or speeds up consecutive rate of firing when HP is below 40%.

There are different servers as well that suit different players (trainees, beginners and more advanced players) to do your co-op missions (up to 4 players) for completing quests or just in general. There are also single player missions, tutorial missions as well as PVP servers where human players clash with each other in free for all or team PVP. I don’t suggest you go into the PVP servers as most of the players, at least I’ve seen so far, all have high end capsule fighters (mostly class A) and chances are you will get killed in one shot easily.

In terms of graphics, its not Battlefield 3 quality obviously. But it doesn’t have to be since its a cartoon to begin with. The graphics is smooth and fluid enough and I did not suffer any framerate drops on my desktop but I did try it on my labtop and I did notice a lot of lag but probably because my labtop does not have a video card, but mind you its still playable on the labtop.

There are still a lot of features that I have not yet fully explored, such as the blue print system where I suspect you can build MS instead of trying out your luck, customizing the MS with stickers and paint of your choice and so on. There seems to be many different customizations for each MS.

Unfortunately I cannot record this game while I play but there are a bunch of gameplays on youtube and here is one:

If you are a Gundam fan, this is a must try! What’s there to lose? Its free!

  • I just found this on Facebook from one of my friends’ “shared a link”. The video was based on the now-pretty-famous Chinese movie called Ip Man, a Wing Chun master from China. For the first minute or so, it plays just like a regular youtube video but that’s when it starts to become interactive. The video requires you to press the pause button so that the villain can stop moving so fast (I don’t want to spoil too much detail of the video). Then the next villain shows up and attacks our protagonist with her loud voice, you now have to press the volumn button to mute her voice. Finally you need to turn back time to find out the traitor by clicking the time bar back to the first minute or so.

The movie is obviously a PR created by Wing Heong BBQ Meat, a company which sells dried meat. I shouldn’t be surprised by such interactivities, afterall, youtube uses Adobe Flash and we know Flash can be very interactive and engaging. Just look at how many Flash based game sites out there. But I look forward to see more of this type of youtube videos where you get to interact with the video and become part of it. Again its nothing new but companies should start using more often.

    Check it out:

And NO, they are not paying me for posting this. I thought this video was rather interesting so that’s why I’m sharing with you guys.

  • You’ve probably seen this comparison thousands of times. And its normal to see these two games being compared over and over again as new versions come out. There are fanboys from both sides bashing each other similar to PS3 vs Xbox 360 fanboys. I originally bought Battlefield 3 because I wanted a change (been playing the MW series for more than 3 years). And just yesterday I could resist but bought Modern Warfare 3 as well after trading in another game at EB Games.

Modern Warfare 3 is nothing special on the single player side, same graphics but new story (picked up from where last game left off), weapons and its still action packed. I was able to get back in the “game” almost right away after getting re-used to the controls. I have yet to play the multiplayer but I can imagine its the same fast pace, arcade-ish feel like previous titles.

So now comes the comparison, in my opinion, there’s none. Battlefield 3 is a slower paced and more realistic first person shooter with more players, bigger maps and you can drive vehicles. On the other hand Modern Warfare 3 is faster paced and less realistic, noticeably much less recoil from firing guns. But Modern Warfare does come with zombie mode (World at War and Black Ops) and this time there’s a survival mode where you fight off waves of enemies, buy/upgrade your weapons similar to zombie mode but without the zombies. This is the one feature I’m looking forward to after I finish the single player.

I think that both games actually compliment each other because they provide two distinct styles of game play for us gamers. When you want to get totally serious, play Battlefield 3. When you just want a few quickie games then play Modern Warfare 3.

Now can we just shut up and play the games? Both are great games with their pros and cons. So in the end, you cannot argue which is ultimately better. And guess what? They are both best sellers in the first person shooting genre.

  • I’m glad I forgot to buy Duke Nukem Forever on Tuesday after reading the review from IGN which gave it a jaw dropping 5.5/10. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by the result after watching this multiplayer trailer from GameTrailers. It looked like a really generic shooter and it just didn’t feel like the good old Duke Nukem. The single player story might be entertaining but I can’t justify paying $69.99 + tax just for single player because I value the multiplayer aspect of a game a lot.

I’m just sad that after 10 years of waiting and the hype generated throughout, went to waste. I felt like they rushed it out because they knew the fans had been waiting and the developers didn’t want to wait any longer. Instead of rolling out with something similar to StarCraft 2 status, which also came out 10 years after the first game, Duke Nukem Forever blew it.

Hopefully not forever as the game name suggested. Hopefully there will be another one coming out that’s done properly. One that retains the old humor and game play with next generation game elements. For now I would just bring out the old Duke Nukem 3D in the mean time while we wait yet again for Duke Nukem to return. This one just didn’t do it.

  • Finally, an online casino as classy and sophisticated as top Vegas casinos has arrived. Twistcasino hosts card games, roulette, slot machines, Craps, Keno and Video Poker thru both its downloadable and instant play applications. Their 3D Flash-based games run pretty fast with eyecandy for graphics. You can gamble in the privacy of your home and not have to install anything. That means real privacy for most players. What’s more is that you can play for fun without any real money involved, a great option if you want to try the casino out first and see if you’ll like it.

  • Dead Space 2

So I finally finishe Dead Space 2 and it was a blast! I would say the game is near perfect in my opinion. From start to finish it was full of none stop action and suspense where the game got me a few times and made me jump. Towards the end I didn’t expect I had to deal with so many necromorphs, they just kept on popping up here and there and that was fun! My only complain is the final boss fight and I will let you guys see for yourselves instead of me spoiling everything.

    Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 introduced a few new guns but I seriously think the previous ones like the trusty plasma cutter, pulse rifle and the very powerful (even without upgrade) line gun, were more than enough to fight off any mobs of necromorphs. I did use the “sniper” seeker rifle from the beginning of obtaining it to the end. Definitely provided me with different ways of dismembering the necromorphs.

The game also introduced a few new types of necromorphs, the Crawler (exploding baby), Stalker and Pack along with the old “cast” like Slasher, the Brute and Lurker (see a full list here). Surprisingly there were a lot of boss encounters like the previous game, which is also one of the downfall of the game. But like I said, the game pace was so intense for me that didn’t bother me too much. Though I did miss killing the The Leviathan or The Hive Mind.

The sound effect, as usual, gave me the creeps and kept me alert and awake all the time. Funny how the necromorphs only appeared when I least expected! Good job on that.

I played a couple of multiplayer and honestly it wasn’t as bad as people said. But for sure it DOES require teamwork otherwise you will not achieve anything acting like Rambo. One thing is true though, is the fact that humans are a bit overpowered at times so you really have to play smart if you are playing as necromorphs. Sort of like Zerg from Starcraft, you really have to know when to swamp at the humans. Here’s a (obviously) tip, try not to go head on!

For all that PLUS it includes the rail shooter game Dead Space Extraction, originally from the Wii, I give Dead Space 2 a 9/10.

Perhaps there will be a third one?

  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Animus Project Update 2.0

Why can’t more game companies be like Ubisoft? Why can’t they make us gamers happier and stop milking us to death? After all, we are the ones keeping them alive. Look at the DLCs for the Modern Warfare series, they (Treyarch) recently said they have listened to the fans and created DLC maps for us, well I guess they didn’t listen hard enough. We said it many many times we didn’t want and we still don’t want to pay for the DLCs, especially rehashed maps like the ones from Modern Warfare 2 DLC.

Keeping your fans happy goes a long way game companies and Ubisoft is doing the right thing. Good job Ubisoft for releasing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Animus Project Update 2.0 for FREE!
