  • Normally this type of girl isn’t really my cup of tea, too doll-like. But this one caught my attention. Eguchi Aimi, one of the members from a popular J-POP group AKB48 has drawn quite a lot of attention from all over the world not just within Japan. Everyone, including me, my friends and my co workers were surprised when we found out she was actually just another computer generated or “synthetic” person. Aimi (that’s her first name, Asians usually put their last names first) is a combination of six of her fellow members (one facial part from each of them).

Watch this youtube video and you will know what I mean.

I’ve also found a Japanese site that has more at glico that has more infomation about her. And for those who are too lazy navigate through the site and/or do not understand Japanese. She is born in 1995, Feburary 11th, 152cm tall, blood type O and interest is singing (well this one is no brainer). She and her 6 fellow members star in one of glico’s snack commercial as shown in the video above.

    Or watch the actual commercial:

The reason why I said I’m not interested in doll-like girls and yet here I am talking about one is the fact that I’m extremely amazed by CG technologies these days and also the Japanese who never cease to amaze me with their crazy things. This is one of them, its so realistic that its almost freaky. I will for sure pay attention to her and her up coming activities, perhaps some day she will turn into a real idol?

For those looking for wallpapers / videos I’ve extracted the links from the glico site (not going to host them on my server just incase of copy right issue):

Entry site about Aimi and her team: http://glico.icenomi.com/special/index.html

  • I still can’t believe this happened to a pretty well known electronics store but apparently I found this from one of my friends’ friends Facebook photo album about purchasing a fake iPod from one of the Best Buy stores in Canada. The story goes, as quoted directly from the person’s Facebook comment:

When I went back for exchange that was when that jerk told me that there is no IPOD logo at the back and the ipod itself is a bit thicker that was why the casing didn’t fit. Why couldn’t I just win the lottery???? They say it never happened before so they won’t exchange it. Ain’t that ridiculous?????

And has filed a complaint to the headquarter of Best Buy. I’m curious to see how that will turn out. Again directly quoted from the Facebook comment

I filed a complaint with bestbuy headoffice and the business bureau as well. But it’s gonna take time if we ever get a real one back. What disappoint me is that even the Manager didn’t even bother to investigate before they said ” no ” to us. Yes, even with a big store like Bestbuy.

So when any of you looking for an iPod, although its rare case. Unfortunately you cannot check the back of the iPod to see if the logo is there before you purchase.

  • fake iPhone

I found this on Tech-On! and they had tear down a fake iPhone made from, you guessed right, China! I’m Chinese and I feel really embarrased for all these copy cat electronics and not just electronics, practically anything China can and will copy if there’s a market for it.

As explained in the said story, it is a lot easier to break the fake iPhone, or the ciPhone as they called it and the internal parts are all simplified as to cut down the manufacturing cost obviously. Based on looking at the image from the article, even the size is different with the fake one slightly longer but then again it won’t be noticeable unless you put it side by side with the real iPhone. Looking closely you can also see the text at the back of the phones are different as well.

    Fight E-waste!

In terms of hardware, the chip used in the fake iPhone “is widely used for general no-name mobile phones in China and it costs about US$6 per set”. An engineer from Tech-On! estimated that the total manufacturing cost is “roughly ¥3,000 to 5,000″ and is sold for ¥16,000 a pop (approx US$170), that’s at least ¥11,000 in profit!

The article also reported the “slow response” from the touch panel which isn’t a surprise really given that the fake phone uses a generic low cost chip.

  • I was checking out some threads in one of my favorite forums and I saw this in the General Discussion forum with a title “Miley Cyrus has died 1992-2008″. My immediate reaction was “What? I didn’t hear anything on the news at all”. Mind you, I’m not a fan of her because I’m too old for Hannah Montana. I clicked the thread and was shown pictures of what appeared to be Yahoo! News and a screenshot of digg on the same topic. Then I thought this had got to be a hoax. And I was right, I’m sure most of you would have figured that out right away. But I just wanted to point out how easy it is for pranksters to manipulate us with fake information. Specially when the news is being spread from popular sites like digg and the ever accurate wiki. I bet someone actually fell for it, I honestly did at first, that’s why I clicked the thread to check it out.

Guess we really need to think before trusting any piece of information that appears over the net.

To clarify, Miley Cyrus, the Hannah Montana star is still alive based on myFox.
