  • What are drivers?
By admin on March 25th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

In the world of computers, drivers are very important tools that let your hardware connect or function in conjunction with the operating system that you are using. A device driver or software driver is a computer program that acts as a gate keeper in letting your hardware or program function accordingly. Remember that drivers are hardware-dependent and operating-system-specific meaning certain drivers will only work with a specific hardware and a specific operating system.

Most problems that you incur when you are using drivers is when you upgrade your operating system or software. You will sometimes see that many of the hardware that you are using will not be working properly. Your printer for example, will ask you to insert a CD driver so that you can have it working properly. With out the CD driver, your printer will be useless since your operating system will not recognize the printer.

This is why sites that offer free drivers are important to computer users. They provide a one stop shop of the different drivers that you need when you want your hardware to function properly. No need to keep different CDs. Just surf the internet and type what kind of driver that you want and you can download with ease.

  • File extension sig is important
By admin on March 25th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Just how important is your file extension sig? When you install and uninstall software, hardware or drivers, you will notice that you will inevitably leave different remnants of your files behind in your registry.

As time goes by, the remnants of these files will accumulate and will ultimately slow down your computer speed. However, it is not only your computer speed that will suffer as time passes and the many remnants accumulate. Some of the more serious problems that you will incur include your computer not recognizing file extensions, freezing, programs not responding, and system crashes.

There are two basic .SIG file extensions that represent the different file formats are text signature or e-mail signature files and image based signature files. The text based file formats have file extension sig that you can use to add various information to your text files. The second type of file format with a .SIG extension is an image based file that you can use as opposed to using text as your .SIG file. And while this feature is more appealing to some, one drawback of using images as .SIG files is that some platforms do not support such file formats.

  • GPS tracking system – good or bad?
By admin on March 5th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

GPS tracking technology is like a double edge sword. While it can save you when you bump into life’s glitches, it can also become a source of annoyance. Sure my wife can know my whereabouts when I’m stuck in traffic or can send help immediately when mishaps happen, but then what if she begins to breathe down my neck and check on my location all for the sake of watching my every move? Wouldn’t that be much like having a stalker or having my privacy violated?

This technology is so powerful and enabling that it almost comes across as something abominable to me. Having the feeling of being watched by someone is already burdensome, but what’s even more alarming is having someone closely intertwined in your life wielding the power of a GPS. No matter how much you put logic into the benefits of having this technology, it still presents itself as a nuisance. It would make me feel like I should always be on my toes, not to mention feel conscious about my actions and destinations.

Instead of strengthening ties, having the power of a GPS tracking technology would only give more rooms for doubts in a relationship. Instead of bringing me closer to my wife, I might even feel more alienated because spontaneity in my actions would be, to some extent, affected. In the end, my wife and I would both feel restless about having the power to know each other’s locations and having the feeling of being monitored anywhere we go. GPS is definitely not a good idea for couples because it might only bring them to the brink of hitting the rocks.

  • Get the most up-to-date drivers for all your software
By admin on February 17th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

When was your last time you check if all your software’s drivers are up-to-date? It is important to remember that although most of the time it is absolutely harmless having outdated drivers. But when you notice your system’s performance starts to deteriorate and it is likely that one or some of your software’s drivers are out of date and render the system unstable. These are mostly related to the system drivers. What if your digital camera, for example, stops working like it used to?

Unlike other drivers sites, DriversSoftware provides not only system related drivers but also computer hardware drivers such as ATI drivers for your ATI video card to electronic peripherals such as Sony drivers for your Cyber-Shot digital camera, mp3 player and printer just to name a few.

The site is easy to navigate thanks to its organized design. You can search for a particular driver by its maker name in several different ways – through the alphabetical list on the top, by driver type or by operating system. Finally it also offers driver scanning tool for you to scan and update your system’s drivers if necessary.

  • Sony Ericsson c902i hands-on review (Day 2)
    By admin on February 4th, 2009 | 4 Comments4 Comments Comments

First I want to apologize for not taking the protective sticker off the screen because I haven’t had a chance to buy a real screen protector yet.

Today I had a chance to play around the c902′s interface. One thing I want to point out is that instead of having two rows of buttons surrounding the center Navigation key like the T616 and k790i, the c902 actually has 3 rows of keys or buttons (the manual calls them keys). The top row has “Selection” keys and they function based on what are displayed on the screen. As for the middle row, you have the “Call” Key which also displaying the call history and “End” key on the opposite side which also acts as a on/off key as well as closing all the menus. Finally the last row has the “Toolbar” key as well as the “Clear” or cancel key. There are more on the right side of the phone but I will cover that tomorrow when I review the camera.

Honestly I am still trying to get used to these three rows of keys and I still press the wrong key once in a while. I don’t recommend this phone for those with big fingers because the keys are rather narrow. I’m not a big person myself but I’ve hit the wrong key before because of the narrowness as well as the little space in between them.

First thing I noticed when navigating through the Grid layout (default style) menu is how fast the screen saver gets activated for inactivity, roughly 20 seconds. I have no luck finding the option to extend the screen’s active time. There are four styles for the menu layout – Grid, Rotating, Single icon and From theme. I am unable to test the last one because I don’t have a theme that supports menu layout yet. After testing the other three styles I still prefer the classic Grid style that displays all 16 icons.

The menu is pretty standard with the only a few additions comparing to my T616 and K790i. The PlayNow, Radio and the Alarm function is now on its own separate icon as oppose to having it as part of the Organizer. The PlayNow allows you to buy and then download music to your phone. For more information, visit the Sony Ericsson page I found.

Basically the menu offers functions that are pretty common among other cellphones out there, nothing special in particular which is fine because I think the real strength of this phone is the 5 megapixel Cyber-shot digital camera as well as the games. Stay tuned for my camera review tomorrow and games the day after!

  • Free file extension repair advice
By admin on January 8th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

There are so many different file formats these days and you can never know ALL of them or what they do. Tons of computer programs are related to bad registries from installed programs and/or previously installed programs but which are removed. There will be bits and pieces left behind when uninstalling programs.

computer.fileextensions.com provides free download to its registry scanner. Many of these issues can be resolved by simply performing registry scans and the scanner will find out any registry problems and fix them accordingly. For example, if you have problem with the file extension DLL or the file extension TMP, you can simply use the scanner and figure out what the problem is.

The site also provides an extensive and sorted list of file extensions and you can add notes to each extension if you want people to be awared of something in particular. Some extensions also tell you ways to open files with those extensions so you can download the corresponding program to open them. Again for example, if you don’t know which program you need in order to open files with the file extension DMG, you simply look for DMG and in the list and you can find out which program to use.

  • Manage your fleet of vehicles from a single computer – GPS Fleet Tracking Systems
By admin on November 18th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

With ever increasing operation costs that businesses need to endure these days, every dollar saved is a still a dollar saved. For businesses that operate with a fleet of cars, trucks and vans for example, which can be very daunting tasks and the operation costs can increase as there are more vehicles to manage. With GPS Fleet Tracking solutions, which allow businesses to monitor all their vehicles and other assets from a single computer. This will greatly reduce the operating costs for them and eliminating unnecessary cost and wasted time. There are a lot of benefits of using these fleet tracking systems with with different features but the common feature is they can all monitor fleets of vehicles with ease.

    Some key features are:

    - location updates with option to pick update interval (2-15 minutes)
    - breadcrumbs trail, trails of visited locations can be displayed on the map so the owners know where their employees have been to
    - vehicle maintenance monitoring such as vehicle check up reminders
    - vehicles’ idle times, engine on/off monitoring

As you can see, these GPS Fleet Tracking systems are pretty much “Big Brother” for the businesses. I think employees of a business should not feel that their privacies have been or will be violated. Although the systems track your performance of driving a truck, for example. They are not meant for tracking their personal privacies if used properly. I believe the reason why business owners with working ethics is soley for monitoring their cost of operating their fleets. If someone feels violated by driving vehicles that have one of these “Big Brother” systems installed, he or she should not agree to the job offer in the first place anyway. And besides, why should he or she have problems with being monitored by these systems for operating the owners’ assets unless that person has something to hide. Its not like someone is sitting beside the person and monitoring him or her!

What if I was the owner of a fleet of a thousand trucks? Certainly I think GPS Fleet Tracking systems will certainly reduce my operation costs. Its common sense really because, again, I can monitor my entire fleet with a single computer. Although it probably makes more sense to monitor them with a few computers because I think its more efficient for mulitple people to monitor when I have a large fleet. But either way, I don’t need to personally keep track of all of them one by one by say, calling on them? Now I can track multiple of them all at once.

These systems also work for parents tracking where and how their teenage kids drive. I mean if they don’t like being monitored, then they don’t get to drive, simple as that! Parents really just want to make sure their kids are not speeding and/or driving to somewhere their parents don’t know about. Then again to each of its own. This is going to sound contradicting but I would feel uncomfortable being monitored while driving. But then again I guess the systems are more suitable for teenage kids that HAVE to be monitored.

GPS Fleet Tracking Systems are definitely great ways to monitoring businesses’ fleet of vehicles by tracking them from a single point, a computer in this case. With the extensive features offered by these systems, businesses can no doubt benefit and greatly reduce their operation costs.

Microsoft Windows operating system, or OS in short, isn’t the most stable system among other ones like Linux or OS X (Apple’s own OS). We all know that! But a lot of people, including me are still using Windows. Errors and crashes can happen when you are least expected when using Windows. For the less tech savvy users, they will be clueless as to what may be causing the issues. One way to know what programs your system are running will give you a better idea of what is going on and what maybe rendering your system unstable. application-error.net is a blog that talks about all kinds of exe (executable) files that run on your system, whether they are legit or harmful ones. Each article talks about a different executable file and contains very detailed information regarding each one. Information such as what the file does and how to identify/spot the file and getting rid of it (if its a harmful one) to restore stability of your system.

The executable files are categorized alphabetically which allows you to quickly navigate to the page that contains all the files that start with that particular letter, therefore finding the file name of your choice faster than having to click through them from A to Z.

application-error.net provides useful, educational and detailed information of what are and aren’t suppose to be running in your system. It gives advices for each listed executable file on what it does, how to identify it and again get rid of it if its deemed harmful.
