  • Bayonetta, could be better than Devil May Cry
By on June 21st, 2009 | No Comments Comments

So this trailer basically shows off all the (possible?) moves for this upcoming action game. I’m pretty hyped up for it honestly, specially after seeing all these trailers. I mean being able to mount a bazooka on behind each of Bayonetta’s heels is just awesome! The kill combo moves are simply bad ass as well. The fact that you can equip her with different guns and even whips and katanas (at least from the trailers) you can have a lot more combos because you can have different equipment combinations. You can have hand guns in both hands and have bazookas behind both heels OR you can get her to equip bazookas in all four! The combos are just limitless, so to speak. That means you won’t get bored easily with the same moves over and over again.

So for now, in my opinion, Bayonetta looks very promising and I think it looks and plays even better than the all time favorite Devil May Cry. I’m curious to see if I’m right or wrong on this one.

Bayonetta will be out this September. I’m hoping the demo will be out sometime in August?

  • Under Seige – a PSN sleeper?
By on June 10th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

    Under Seige - PlayStation Network

Found another potential sleeper game, this one is called Under Seige available exclusively for download from the PlayStation Network. Under Seige is an action RTS (real time strategy) game. Though this debut trailer is pretty short, which is just a bit longer than a minute. Given the fact that its a downloadable game, the graphics are surprisingly impressive! Then again, graphics aren’t everything but the little bit of game play shown in the trailer does look pretty intense.

Let’s hope this one is worthy of download when it becomes available in the third quarter of 2009. This is definitely another one to keep an eye on just like the Fat Princess, another action RTS. I personally think that one is even more fun than this!

  • Mod Nation Racers – when LittleBigPlanet meets ...
By on June 3rd, 2009 | No Comments Comments

GameTrailers.com has been showing us loads and loads of E3 trailers, teasers, game plays or whatever you call them these days none stop for the past few days. While most of them look promising, I think this one in particular shines among the rest. Mod Nation Racers is the result of combining LittleBigPlanet and one of our all time favorite, Mario kart. While there are features that will immediately remind you of Mario Kart, like the power ups and the wide range of character customizations for your racers which resemble that of LittleBigPlanet. Sometimes copying other feature from different games and implementing them into a single game might actually work, and might be the case for Mod Nation Racers.

I think one of the biggest selling point of this game is the fact that you can create your own tracks (see trailer 2), something you cannot do in the Mario Kart series. This basically translates to infinite number of playable tracks, assuming people will love this game enough to create these custom tracks similar to LBP’s levels created by the players. If that’s the case, the replay value for the game will be extremely high.

The game’s customizations, track editor and the LBP feel all contribute to why I have high hopes for this game, which I’m guessing will be released some time next year. Which reminds me I should open up my PS3 and get the Blu-ray drive checked out, otherwise I will be missing out all the great games coming up even this year!

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine – PS3 demo review
By on May 8th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

X-Men Origins: Wolverine reminds me of Heavenly Sword, a lot, particularly the sound of Wolverine’s clawns make when you slash your enemies into pieces. The demo was actually enjoyable, but still not worth my money to be honest. Maybe its because I’m not a hardcore fan of Wolverine, but one thing for sure is this game has not been polished enough, again in my opinion.

As I mentioned the style is similar to Heavenly Sword, or any other hack and slash games out there. You can chain your normal attacks with your heavy attacks. The fights are fast and bloody, a plus for me. There are also features that I haven’t seen in other games before, or I just don’t play enough games anymore these days. One is the Lunge attack, which you get early on in the demo and which you get to lock on to a target (make sure there is no object in between you and the unfortunate, and then jump onto the target and kill him. I never got bored of using Lunge when I played the demo but I found it a bit too powerful. The second feature that I like is the way the environment can give you different ways of finishing off your enemies. Like you can throw someone into a large stake that you will find on the walls or floors. These features really give the game more varieties, in terms of killing.

You can also upgrade Wolverine by collecting orbs and gaining experience by killing your enemies. I’m a big fan of level grinding so experience is another +1 for the game.

Now you will probably want to ask “Then why won’t you buy this game since you sound like you enjoyed this game?”. Well for one thing this type of game does not really offer me too much replay value, once I finish the game, it will be collecting dust, but this can be easily solved by selling it back to game stores. But I’m too cheap for that even so I might go rent it for a weekend. Second thing I don’t like is related to the “has not been polished” that I have mentioned before. The graphics look nice until you notice your character, Wolverine, is sometimes “floating” above the floor instead of walking on the floor. Floating is noticable when you are going uphill. That alone just turned me off, it might minor for you but for some reason its a big deal for me and its not acceptable.

So overall I think this game is worth it if you can ignore little issues here and there, I’m sure there are more issues like “floating” in the full game. The fact that you can interact with the environment and make use of it for killing your enemies is really a big bonus, making the game much more fun. So that’s my take for this game, get the demo if you have an xbox and/or a PS3 and see for yourself!

  • GPS tracking system – good or bad?
By on March 5th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

GPS tracking technology is like a double edge sword. While it can save you when you bump into life’s glitches, it can also become a source of annoyance. Sure my wife can know my whereabouts when I’m stuck in traffic or can send help immediately when mishaps happen, but then what if she begins to breathe down my neck and check on my location all for the sake of watching my every move? Wouldn’t that be much like having a stalker or having my privacy violated?

This technology is so powerful and enabling that it almost comes across as something abominable to me. Having the feeling of being watched by someone is already burdensome, but what’s even more alarming is having someone closely intertwined in your life wielding the power of a GPS. No matter how much you put logic into the benefits of having this technology, it still presents itself as a nuisance. It would make me feel like I should always be on my toes, not to mention feel conscious about my actions and destinations.

Instead of strengthening ties, having the power of a GPS tracking technology would only give more rooms for doubts in a relationship. Instead of bringing me closer to my wife, I might even feel more alienated because spontaneity in my actions would be, to some extent, affected. In the end, my wife and I would both feel restless about having the power to know each other’s locations and having the feeling of being monitored anywhere we go. GPS is definitely not a good idea for couples because it might only bring them to the brink of hitting the rocks.
