  • There should be more interactive youtube videos
By admin on December 21st, 2011 | No Comments Comments

I just found this on Facebook from one of my friends’ “shared a link”. The video was based on the now-pretty-famous Chinese movie called Ip Man, a Wing Chun master from China. For the first minute or so, it plays just like a regular youtube video but that’s when it starts to become interactive. The video requires you to press the pause button so that the villain can stop moving so fast (I don’t want to spoil too much detail of the video). Then the next villain shows up and attacks our protagonist with her loud voice, you now have to press the volumn button to mute her voice. Finally you need to turn back time to find out the traitor by clicking the time bar back to the first minute or so.

The movie is obviously a PR created by Wing Heong BBQ Meat, a company which sells dried meat. I shouldn’t be surprised by such interactivities, afterall, youtube uses Adobe Flash and we know Flash can be very interactive and engaging. Just look at how many Flash based game sites out there. But I look forward to see more of this type of youtube videos where you get to interact with the video and become part of it. Again its nothing new but companies should start using more often.

    Check it out:

And NO, they are not paying me for posting this. I thought this video was rather interesting so that’s why I’m sharing with you guys.

  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance – looks like another button mashing winner
By admin on December 12th, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Its been a while since we last saw the trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, or what most people thought was called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The VGA 2011 showed us another trailer, a more accurate presentation of what the next MG game is going to look like. Based on this latest trailer, its pretty obvious Metal Gear Rising: Reveneance is going to be an over the top action game similar to Bayonetta. This should not come as a surprise since the game is developed by PlatinumGames, the maker of Bayonetta, another over the top action game where you played as a sexy office lady looking witch.

So what’s so special about this button mashing game? First of all, it has Raiden in it and he’s the main protagonist this time. Another major selling point of this game will probably be the ability to slice and dice your enemies with precision as shown in this and one of the very first trailers where Raiden was slicing things into pieces in slow motion. Aside from these, the graphics look amazing! We will need to see more in game trailers before we can find out if there is anything, game mechanics wise, added to this game.

    One of the older trailers:

I’ve read some of the comments from people and how they are complaining about this game is ruining the MGS series. Keep in mind this is not MGS: Rising but Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. To me this is a new series and not a direct continuation of MGS but a branched out one. I believe MGS is done because Snake is probably dead by now with his aging problem. Some are also complaining about its another Devil May Cry / Bayonetta clone, well so what? So therefore game developers should stop making over the top action games that require button mashing then? I have faith in PlatinumGames and Kojima.

I have high hopes for this one and so far it looks like a winner to me. Let’s just hope it comes out next year and not 2013.

    See for yourself:

  • The Top Fitness Gadget of 2011: Jawbone’s Up
By admin on December 12th, 2011 | No Comments Comments

    [Guest post by Margot]

A pedometer is a very basic and useful tool for measuring how much you walk each day. Unfortunately, most pedometers are inaccurate. They rely on archaic technology that can only guestimate each step you take based on movement. Plus, they only measure how much you walk. They can’t keep track of how much you swim or how many calories you burn while you’re dancing to your favorite pop song. Fortunately for fitness enthusiasts, the pedometer isn’t the only way you can keep track of how much you exercise every day. The technology accessory company Jawbone recently released a product called “Up” that is expected to take the fitness world by storm. This product measures exactly how much you exercise every day, no matter what way you’re exercising. Here’s what you should know about Up:

    • Up is essentially a high-tech bracelet that accurately monitors your movement on a daily basis. The bracelet is synced up with an application you can download on your Smartphone.
    • The Up bracelet will cost you around $100, and the Up app is free to download to your compatible Smartphone.
    • You simply put the Up bracelet on your wrist and download the Up app on your phone. Once you’ve done this, all of your physical activity will be kept track of for you.
    • You can wear the Up bracelet in the shower or when you’re swimming. It’s totally waterproof.
    • You use a silver button on the bracelet to signify what you’re doing: sleeping, exercising, or working. The bracelet will keep track of how much you exercise, your physical activity at work, and how much you sleep.
    • The Up Smartphone app also allows you to record what you’re eating throughout the day and calculates your daily caloric intake. The app’s “meal” feature also allows you to take pictures of what you’re eating and record how each meal makes you feel. This allows you to keep track of what meals/foods make you feel full, energized, tired, etc.
    • At the end of the day, you can check how many calories you’ve burned on the Up app.
    • The Up app will challenge you based on your current levels of activity. For instance, it may dare you to run an extra 250 steps. If you take the challenge on and complete it, you’ll be provided with incentives like free coupons for your performance.

So, if you’re interested in a gadget that will help you get and stay fit, consider Up. It’s a lot more useful than your old school pedometer!

  • Semispherical rear-projection display on cars?
By admin on December 7th, 2011 | No Comments Comments

Mitsubishi Electric Corp has developed something that I thought would only exist in Gundams – semispherical rear-projection display on cars. Basically as I understand it, the technology is similar to what rear-projection TVs are using with a touch sensitive semisphere that can track your hand movement as well as hand writing.

The thing is, based on the concept, it looks as though this technology is geared towards the driver instead of both driver and front passenger. I mean the technology is cool and all but I would rather concentrate on driving the car than fiddling with the semisphere, specially for manual drivers but then again by the time this is ready for mass production manual transmission might be a thing of the past so its actually not a problem. Nevertheless I would much prefer it being on the centre console so the front passenger have access to it as well.

And oh yeah I hate that steering wheel. We are not flying jets here. Unless this concept can also fly.

  • Fastest RC car in the world – Traxxas XO-1
By admin on December 5th, 2011 | No Comments Comments

When I first saw the news on my Facebook page with the Title “Is this the world’s cheapest supercar?” I thought it was a real car. But it turns out its actually a radio control, or RC, race car that is capable of going from 0-62mph in a mere 2.3 seconds. That also means 0.16 seconds faster than the ugly, but super fast Bugatti Veyron. You can have the world’s fastest RC car for only £700, which in my opinion, is a pretty reasonable price.

My concerns are, where on earth can you actually race this besides a real race track as shown in the youtube video below. And I bet I need binoculars just to keep “track” of where it is. Even then its tough when its only 27 inches long. I also can’t imagine the repair cost for this car if it crashes, given the speed it can go, I am pretty sure it will be rendered unrepairable and there goes your £700.

But I still want this for Christmas! It would make my Christmas if I could review it for one day. Heck! Even half a day!

Check out the youtube video: (there are more obviously)
